You’ve got lots to choose from but where you stay should depend on where you'll be going and the things you'll be doing - you probably don’t want to be driving all day. Where do you want to spend more time?

Banff is about 2 hours drive west of Calgary.

Banff Downtown Accommodation:

  • Peaks Hotel - opened last summer; fresh and modern

  • Mount Royal - in the heart of the town

  • Fairmont Banff Springs - for that bit of indulgence

Drive west along Highway 1 to reach Lake Louise.

Lake Louise Accommodation:

  • Moraine Lake Lodge - lodging on the shore of beautiful Moraine Lake

  • Lake Louise Inn - affordable in the heart of Lake Louise village

  • Fairview lookout trail - quick trail which takes you to a lookout above the lake

  • Big Beehive trail - beautiful adventure up and around the lake

  • Rent a canoe - because, why not?

Moraine Lake

  • Rockpile trail - short and scenic trail that takes you above the lake

  • Consolation lakes trail - trail behind Moraine Lake to a set of beautiful lakes

  • Rent a Canoe - because, why not? Haha

Banff

  • Lake Minnewanka - largest lake in Banff National Park (and other lakes along the way include Cascade Ponds, Johnson Lake, and Two Jack Lake), close to Banff downtown

  • Johnston Canyon - popular family-friendly trail to check out some awesome waterfalls

  • Drive along Highway 1A (Bow Valley Parkway) for the chance to see wildlife

North towards Jasper along Highway 93 North

  • Epic drive with lots of hiking options along this route with opportunities to see wildlife - bears, caribou and mountain goats

  • My favourite places along the way: Peyto Lake, Athabasca Falls, Horseshoe Lake

South towards Invermere/Radium along Highway 93 South

  • Change in scenery as you drive across the British Columbia border

  • My favourites along this drive: Stanley Glacier Hike, Marble Canyon Trail, Hot Springs

South towards Kananaskis Country along Highway 40

  • I love K Country. It's often overlooked by the tourists but there is so much to see and do here with lots of wildlife too - bears, deer, bighorn sheep

  • My favourite places to visit are - Arethusa Cirque, Tent Ridge, Upper Kananaskis Lake
